Baofeng DM-32 --> OpenDM-32

I think all of us participate in this in our own ways.  The vast majority of any praise and credit goes to the developers who volunteer their time and energy to do this.

I looked at the original firmware in Ghidra and went cross-eyed.    I thought, hey maybe I can poke around and find something in either the Alpha firmware or the original firmware to help.  But, memory allocations and commands are just something I do not have enough knowledge on right now to make a difference.

Any bugs/testing I do is not a slight against the developers or a demand for functions/fixes.  I've worked in customer service/troubleshooting positions my entire professional career.  Finding, documenting, and troubleshooting bugs is something I DO have some level of skill in.  So, if that is how I can help, it is how I will help.  Granted, my limited radio experience sometimes results in  me making mistakes as well, but the good intent is there.

I don't think any of us expect perfection or a bug-free experience with the alpha, ore even beta releases.  The alpha alone is a vast improvement upon the stock firmware and especially the stock CPS which made programming impossible.

I would like to report an issue regarding modulation selection in OpenDM32.

When changing the modulation type for a channel, the selection is not properly saved or retained. After saving or changing channels, the modulation field either becomes blank/null or automatically defaults to FM+.

Steps to Reproduce:

Press the green button navigate over the channel details.

Change the Mode and then confirm with SK2+Green button.

Re-check the channel settings (or switch away and back to the channel / reboot the device).

Expected Behavior:

The selected modulation should be saved permanently for that channel.

Actual Behavior:

The modulation parameter fails to persist and resets to an empty value or forces itself to FM+. If you choose DMR you get AM and if you choose AM or FM+ you get NULL after the saving.

Environment:

Device: Baofeng DM-32

OpenDM32 Firmware Version: 20260704201545 SoC HR_C7000

CPS / Configuration method: on radio menu

I wonder if this is just a display issue or if it actually impacts the modulation type.  This could partially explain the quiet/squelch issues on aviation frequencies if those frequencies are not switching to the AM modulation.

I'd like to point out a few issues I've come across, not as a criticism but in the hope that they may help with the development process.

There are still a lot of errors, it's impossible to find and fix everything all at once, so the process is ongoing

This is not correct, I've been able to extract copies with FTDI and CH340 chips. I'm sure you can do it with CP2102. The process is tricky though and you have to act with fast coordination to make it happen.

Добрый день!Меня зовут Дмитрий.И я хочу выразить огромную благодарность и сказать от души спасибо большое всем кто принимает участие в создании этого проекта особенно (автору этого проекта) ,всем кто занимается над созданием более стабильной версии прошивки для радиостанции BAOFENG DM-32 и в частности для данного вида применяемого процессора (HR_C7000).Мне как радиолюбителю работающему в сетях DMR очень интересен ваш проект вы наконец то сдвинули с мертвой точки,то что казалось уже обречено,а конкретно новые радиостанции работающее на других видах процессора,отличных от большинства тех первых радиостанций DMR выполненных на базе RDA 1846, RDA 1846S (AT 1846, AT 1846S) которые с успехом применяются радиолюбителями и для которых есть стабильные версии альтернативной прошивке Open GD-77.Очень надеюсь и верю что и у вас получится создать стабильную версию прошивки для данного вида процессора (HR_C7000),которую с радостью смогут установить все желающие на свои радиостанции Baofeng DM-32 и я конечно же не исключение из них.Хочется пожелать удачи вам в этом!С нетерпением буду ждать продвижение этого проекта и выхода более стабильных версий прошивок.С уважением Дмитрий!73!

Отсутствуют пакеты с модема HR_C7000 для пробуждения репитера BS Outbound Activation
Вместо этого только немодулированная несущая...

Are you saying that the Invalid Channel error is supposed to be there in the "correct" version, or is that an additional issue that needs to be cleared?

I wanted to ask if there's some timeline regarding releasing the source code, I would prefer if we had some github repo, but a tarball is fine too, as I think it could really help the project grow. There are many people in the rest of the world who are willing and able to make contributions: fixing bugs, adding new features, ...

I think it's too early to publish the source code, as it still has a lot of bugs and not everything works properly. It wouldn't be right if messy versions of the code spread around the internet. Reach out to Roger VK3KYY – if you can help, that would be great.

Good day, I suggest you read the entire discussion, there are only 10 pages so far.
But TL;DR: This build is going to be similar to the OpenGD77 project, but for the DM-32UV, and possibly for any HR_C7000 type radios.

Obviously not used a GD77 radio before , much better than a stock firmware dm32uv the radio is absolute junk without this new OpemDM32 it makes the radio so much better in a lot of ways

I'm trying to load firmware .bin file "OpenGD77_DM32_20260711.bin".  Just opening the .bin file in the OpenGD77 CPS cause the CPS to freeze.  The CPS is version E2026.7.13.01.

It is NOT the programming cable, because it happens even if the cable isn't plugged in.

EDIT: I tried the setup on a different PC, and it works fine.  So I'm guessing there's some sort of conflict somewhere.
